1984

The Color Purple
Separated as girls, sisters Celie and Nettie sustain their loyalty to and hope in each other across time, distance, and silence. Through a series of letters spanning nearly thirty years, first from Celie to God, then from the sisters to each other, the novel draws readers into a rich and memorable portrayal of Black women—their pain and struggle, companionship and growth, resilience and bravery.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow.

This improbable story of Christopher's quest to investigate the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog makes for one of the most captivating, unusual, and widely heralded novels in recent years.

The House of the Spirits
The House of the Spirits brings to life the triumphs and tragedies of three generations of the Trueba family. The patriarch Esteban is a volatile, proud man whose voracious pursuit of political power is tempered only by his love for his delicate wife Clara, a woman with a mystical connection to the spirit world. When their daughter Blanca embarks on a forbidden love affair in defiance of her implacable father, the result is an unexpected gift to Esteban: his adored granddaughter Alba, a beautiful and strong-willed child who will lead her family and her country into a revolutionary future.

TUESDAY, NOV. 18 • 6–7:30 P.M.
Join us for a reception to celebrate artist Ana Žanić and her solo exhibition, Dream Garden. Žanić’s watercolor paintings are both an exploration of the formal visual elements, as well as her personal feelings through an intuitive, spontaneous process. Reminiscent of imaginary landscapes, her organic abstractions bring to mind abandoned landscapes, ancient scribbles, notions of the undersea life, amoebic flows, and distant constellations.

We’re thrilled to unveil Joy, our newest sculpture now on display — a stunning celebration of nature, community, and imagination.
Commissioned by Friends of the Library and created by renowned artist Cecilia Lueza, Joy features a vibrant burst of butterflies emerging from a circular form — symbolizing unity, balance, and the connections that take flight when we gather, learn, and grow together.

Spinning Tales is a community-created yarn bombing project, hosted on the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the parking lot.
Riparia by artist Salvatore Siriano, is a digital projection onto the building, facing 6th Street. Siriano blends field recordings, synthesis, acoustic instruments, and original video.
