Amy will share insights from her culinary journey, including her experiences training in some of New York City’s top restaurants and returning home to Minnesota, where she rediscovered the richness of regional cooking. Amy has been featured on Food Network, NPR, and in publications such as The New York Times and Food & Wine.
 
Her books The New Midwestern Table and Give a Girl a Knife both won the James Beard Book Award for American cooking.

Presenter Yvonne Wolf of Chinese Intercultural, LLC will explore the meanings behind tiles like characters (AKA kraks), bamboos (AKA bams), and dots, and explain the differences between Mah-jongg and mahjong. Discover the history, symbols, expressions, and cultural evolution of this beloved game.

Leon Granacki, a Chicago-born son of Polish immigrants, was drafted into World War II and sent to the South Pacific. Using his art skills, he rose from private infantryman to master sergeant and mapmaker for General MacArthur. His vivid wartime story is told through hand-drawn maps, watercolors, photos, and heartfelt letters home—many written in Polish to his parents. His daughter, Victoria, archivist and historian, shares this remarkable visual and written record of one soldier’s life and longing.
